Introduction of two new RFID systems for the support of Kanban processes

Category: News

Brooks Automation is introducing two new RFID systems to the market for the support of Kanban processes. Both devices can be integrated into the existing process and replace manual bookings/entries without any changes being required.

RFID Kanban

Two new RFID systems from Brooks Automation provide faster Kanban accounting processes. The German RFID manufacturer is introducing a reader unit to the market for use in booking Kanban cards. A Kanban board equipped with RFID technology rounds off this offer. These are both high-frequency systems running at a frequency of 13.56 MHz.

The design and function of the RFID Kanban board is oriented towards the classic hand-held board for manual insertion of cards The only innovation is that the cards are equipped with a transponder that forms the basis of the electronic acquisition.
At the press of a button, an RFID reader integrated into the board collects all transponder data and communicates it over the Ethernet to the ERP system.  The consumption data is therefore available in real-time to the internal delivery management – deliveries can be made much faster and with more flexibility than previously.
Operation remains unchanged - the user deposits the kanbans in the board as usual and presses the button to receive an optical and acoustic signal indicating whether the cards have been successfully entered.

The RFID Reader HF60 SAV  is also all about accelerated entry. The user holds the card in front of the reader and is informed of successful entry by an acoustic signal or the lighting of an indicator lamp.
The compact design of the RFID reader allows it to be used in a wide range of circumstances. No additional attachments are required because the antenna is integrated into the housing and the power supply is by means of PoE (Power over Ethernet), i.e. over the Ethernet cable.
Due to the properties of the housing, the RFID reader also easily fulfills the requirements made in extreme working situations. It is insensitive to extreme temperatures and air humidity. Due to its design the unit guarantees optimum reading results even when there are metallic influences in the immediate vicinity.

In a company of suppliers for car manufacturers that had already installed both products from Brooks RFID Division, an enormous time-saving was registered for delivery processes. The system had a positive effect on the associated cost of working capital, which were greatly lowered due to the clearly reduced stock.

Simplification of the work processes and transparency of inventory were in the forefront when developing both RFID systems. Brooks Automation therefore places emphasis on easy handling and retention of existing work processes. Both units can be easily integrated into the existing process and can be operated without intensive training, which results in faster acceptance by the user.
